Happy New Year!
Have you made any New Year's resolutions yet? Have you achieved the ones from last year?
Don't worry, we will not be asking any of these questions during the workshop.
Our main theme, during the first meeting of 2019, is motivation. In his book "Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us", Daniel Pink introduces his motivation paradigm to replace the old-fashioned "carrot and stick" approach. He argues that old way no longer works in modern industries. In the process, he defines three pillars of motivation: Autonomy, Mastery and Purpose.
Workshop's first exercise will ask you to compare your current working environments to Pink's model. For environments needing refinement. Then we will try Improvement Kata to see how we can apply some of our learnings about motivation. Improvement Kata is a tool created to help take systematic steps towards desired end condition. In our context - motivated workers who love Mondays.
