Rancher, Submariner, K3S – Rancher Labs is on fire!
As a part of the event GarageTalks: tech attitudes you will have a unique opportunity to find out from the first-hand how to manage multiple Kubernetes clusters. The main lecture will be presented by Rancher Labs (first time in Poland!) and supported by two Nokia talks.
If you have already used Kubernetes/Rancher or just want to start – this meetup is for you!
Talk #1 K3S as an alternative to minikube
K3S — simplified, low size, legacy-code cleaned, Raspberry PI ready Kubernetes, which can be used locally, even in own laptop as well and easy as in cloud. Great chance to learn Kubernetes at home. Created by Rancher, developed by community, used by many. During presentation you will see how easily it can be deployed and some neat things. You will see how to use local persistent volume and ingress (with traefik) on k3s cluster. 40MB storage size and 512MB memory and you're ready to go to learn production-grade Kubernetes.
Talk #2 Introduction to Kubernetes API – the way to understand the concept of Kubernetes Operators
To understand the concept of Kubernetes Operators you need to better understand the Kubernetes API itself. The presentation will help you to find it in your cluster, explain how it works and how you can extend it. In addition, you will have a chance to find out what Custom Resources are, what is CustomResourceDefinition and API Aggregation and finally what is the advantage of using Operators.
Talk #3 Multi-cluster RBAC management with Rancher
The presentation focuses on the challenges of implementing consistent access policies across multiple Kubernetes clusters in a typical enterprise environment. Starting with an introduction to the basic concepts of Kubernetes RBAC and having highlighted the limitations of file-based policy management at scale, it will present the concept of central authentication and policy management provided by the open source Kubernetes management platform Rancher… but that's not all, submariner and other hints are waiting for you.
The idea of GarageTalks: tech attitudes
GarageTalks: tech attitudes is series of meetings organized by Nokia Garage which focuses on various topics related to innovations around the ICT and IT technologies perceived through the prism of problem-solving methodologies with which engineers and developers work on daily basis. Each GarageTalks: tech attitudes scene is designed to show different approaches and different points of view on the same subject. Topics are focused around questions which programmers and engineers are asking themselves during everyday duties.
