  • Aleksander Piotrowski

Used to be PHP developer in previous live, nowadays living the dream as Android developer. When not programming, he can be seen giving presentations mostly about ... Android. Proud that his heart is not all green and still have some love for Xamarin or other even cooler technologies!

Is there a room for Room?

This year at Google I/O new persistence library, called Room, was announced. In my presentation I will compare it to requery.io which is the gold standard of data persistence (yes, that's right, to requery.io and not Realm). After 40 minutes you will know what features Room has, how it works with RxJava and how it compares to requery.io. I promise not to ignore more advanced topics such as migration testing.

  • Christof Roduner

VP Engineering, CIO and co-founder of Scandit. He is responsible for the building and maintenance of Scandit's products, services and infrastructure and leads all engineering activities. He studied computer science and business administration and holds a PhD in computer science from ETH Zurich. He was a researcher at ETH Zurich and MIT  on Internet of Things-related projects. He has a passion for scalable server infrastructures and web technologies and sometimes wishes he had more time again to write code.

From engineer to entrepreneur - How to turn your research into a global startup company

Together with three friends from university, Christof started the company Scandit to bring their Internet of Things research to market. What started as four guys writing code has become one of Switzerland's most successful startups in the mobile space, used today on more than 75 million mobile phones worldwide. Scandit has turned from a small project around university research into a global startup company.

In this talk, Christof will describe the startup journey and share the lessons learned along the way. The talk will provide insights into questions of technology/market fit, product development, pivoting, financing/funding, IP (patents) and global expansion in Silicon Valley and elsewhere.
