Description:

Join us for a #4 series of exciting online events on React/Node.js!

Find out why it’s worth the time and effort to perform tests that resemble the way end-users interact with the software, and how to run them with DOM Testing library.

Bartosz Szewczyk, seasoned frontend developer and Tech Lead at Codete, will tell you all about it on Tuesday, 01/09/2020, at 5PM on Zoom.

Join us at 5PM on Zoom!

DOM Testing library: tests resembling user interaction

Testing React components usually end up in rendering an isolated DOM tree and picking up rendered elements using regular CSS selectors. DOM Testing library tries to put more emphasis on how the end-user interacts with the page and gives us tools to express it through code. Like every abstraction, it comes with a certain cost. In my talk, I will explain why it's worth the effort and describe how tests that are closer to how the software is used are giving developers a better confirmation that their code is correct.

Duration: full slot length, ~35 min + 10 min Q&A

About the speaker: Bartosz Szewczyk

Frontend developer at Codete, with love for simple solutions in life and work. Enjoys honesty of functional approach in programming, and the certainty that static typing gives to the codebase. Participates in game jams after-hours to create small video games in Unity, trying to utilize math skills obtained alongside a Master's degree. Recently picked up playing the keyboard with a goal in mind to compose music for games. Still don't quite understand monads despite doing a talk about them at a local meetup.
