Agenda

18:30 – Introduction by the Poznań & Paris WiMLDS team

18:40 – “DETECT WASTE WITH AI” by MARIA FERLIN, PHD CANDIDATE AT THE GDAŃSK UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

Abstract: Did you know that we produce 300 million tons of plastic every year? And only part of it is properly recycled. The idea of Plastic object detection project is to use Artificial Intelligence to detect plastic waste in the environment. Our solution is applicable for video and photography. Our goal is to use AI for Good. The talk will briefly introduce the results of work of 9 women behind the 5-month educational project detectwaste.ml - “Waste detection in Pomerania”. By the end you will know what was our motivation and how we managed to handle the problem. You will know what datasets we used (and there was many...) and how good our solution is. I hope that after this talk you will say 'It is a problem worth consideration'.

Biography : Maria is a machine learning enthusiast who believes that technological progress might be used to help people, not only to entertain them. On a daily basis she is conducting research as a PhD student at Gdansk University of Technology. Her main field of interest is machine learning in medicine. To broaden her horizons she participated in the Detect Waste in Pomerania project and joined the WiMLDS organization.

19:10 - "HOW TO EVALUATE TRUST IN AI-ASSISTED DECISION MAKING?" by OLEKSANDRA VERESCHAK, PHD STUDENT IN HUMAN-AI INTERACTION (AT ISIR, SORBONNE UNIVERSITE)

Abstract: Imagine you have built a AI-embedded system following guidelines on trustworthiness. To know if you succeeded, you would need to evaluate users' trust in it. But how to measure trust, what task to give, what other details in experimental protocol to pay attention to? In this presentation, you will learn about the state of art of methods for studying trust in the Human-AI Interaction community and how they can be improved using social and cognitive science literature.

19:40 - Quick interactive session
