Opis:

This month we are back with on-site meetings! The first one after the break will take place at the Thaumatec office, Lelewela 8, Wrocław. The event will also be streamed live.

We will have two speakers who will share their experience with Rust on the embedded platforms.

18:00: Introduction

18:10: Patryk Wychowaniec - Microdosing Rust: Why & How to Get Started with AVR?

AVRs are charming microcontrollers that can survive more than 300 days on a single AA battery, lying on anything - from cold-cold ice to a sizzling stone.

They can easily communicate with both high-level machines such as computers and low-level peripherals like humidity meters, which makes them neat, satisfying MCUs to play with.

And - brace yourselves, you're not going to expect it - they can be

programmed in Rust!

In this demo-talk I'm going to show how we can "put" some Rust code into an Atmega328p - from running `cargo new` to ending up with a working device.

Electronics knowledge is not needed!

Level: Beginner

Language: English

Bio:

Coding for livin' for a few years now, out of which around two and a half

have been in Rust. Currently working in Anixe, evolving complex Rust systems during the day; blogging & submitting patches to open source projects by night. Oh, and I love my dogs, too!

19:00: Michał Chodzikiewicz - RTIC: Real time concurrency on ARM Cortex-M

Bare metal systems often combine very limited resources with various other restrictions, for example, continuous operation, known latency, prioritizing specific tasks and many more. Let's see if it is possible to cope with it using an abstraction that is safe and easy to grasp.

This talk will introduce ARM Cortex-M, how interrupts work and real-time systems with a demo on how Rust fits in this type of application at the end using RTIC.

Level: Intermediate

Language: English

Bio:

Embedded software engineer for quite some time, seeing Rust as a chance to modernize the approach to developing critical systems on low-end embedded targets.

Beer brewer, musician and whatnot.

19:30 Discussion, Q&A, integration...

We hope to meet you all in person and online soon!
