In recent years, Kraków has become an increasingly international city. More professionals, founders, and creatives are choosing to relocate here, drawn by a growing tech sector, a strong economy, and an improved quality of life.

At the same time, Poland has been receiving growing international attention as one of Europe’s fastest-growing economies. Recently, the UK’s The Times described Poland as a powerhouse, highlighting why the UK is increasingly looking at cities like Kraków.

What is Hangout?

Hangout is an informal gathering of the #OMGKRK community, bringing together founders, builders, developers, creatives, and internationally minded residents of Kraków.

It’s a space where the city’s innovation community can meet in a relaxed setting, exchange ideas, and connect with people shaping Kraków’s growing tech and startup ecosystem.

Meet the Journalist Covering Poland’s Transformation

During this Hangout we will welcome Matthew Campbell, journalist with The Sunday Times. Matthew is currently working on a feature for The Sunday Times Magazine exploring Poland’s transformation and why the country is becoming increasingly attractive for international residents, including many from the UK.

Matthew is Foreign Features Editor for The Times and The Sunday Times. Over the course of his career he has covered numerous wars, natural disasters, and major political developments. Earlier in his career he served as bureau chief in Moscow in the early 1990s, and later in Washington and Paris. He began his journalism career in Latin America with Reuters.

As part of his research, Matthew will be visiting Kraków to better understand:

• why people are choosing to relocate here
• how the city has evolved over the past decades
• how Krakow may continue to grow and develop

This Hangout will give him the opportunity to hear directly from members of the Krakow community and gather perspectives for his upcoming feature.

A Local Perspective from the International Community

Joining the conversation is David McGirr, originally from the UK and a long-time resident of Kraków.

David is a pillar of the international community and moderator of the city’s largest Krakow Expats Facebook group, which now includes more than 40,000 members. Having observed Kraków’s evolution firsthand, David will share his perspective on how the city has changed and why many people are choosing to build their lives here.
