Description:

Hello!

A long-awaited meetup is on its way!

Take a look at agenda and be with us in two weeks.

  • Talk #1: Paweł Dolega "Intro to serverless (Lambda) with Scala"

This will be a quick introduction to serverless architecture. We’ll be using Amazon infrastructure (Lambda) and Scala code. We’ll cover basic concepts & ideas together several sample applications.

I strongly believe that serverless is a trend that will have a major impact on how we develop and deploy software 5-10 years from now. Goal of this presentation would be to give you a basic idea how things work, show you couple of simple and more complicated applications and basically give you a good start to experiment on your own.

From the perspective of serverless architecture this will be introductory material (no prior knowledge & experience needed). We would be using a bunch of other services from Amazon infrastructure (S3, RDS etc) but no advanced knowledge is needed here either.

Bio: Seasoned software engineer. Worked in international corporations, small local software houses (two of which I co-founded) . Delivered projects for both mentioned organization types and everything in between (small, medium companies, corporations, startups, government organizations). These days I deal mostly with projects related somehow to Lightbend stack (Scala / Akka / Play / Spark) and high-volume transaction processing or distributed systems in general (e.g. microservices).

  • Talk #2: Wiesław Popielarski "State monad in functional world"

State monad is good example to show power of functional programming. But it is misunderstood quite often too. This time I lead you into live code and together we construct simplest ever State monad. All you have to know are just functions, so no harder than high school. See you soon.

Bio: I've been a programmer for more than 20 years, starting from Pascal, Assembler, C, C++ (who remembers MFC or Qt?), through Java, Groovy, Javascript and ending up on Scala and TypeScript recently. I've got PhD in Computer Science and personally take part in TopCoder matches from time to time being the oldest competitor in TC community. Currently I'm working on the Scala IDE and contribute to many other open source projects like scala, zinc, and even Scalameta.
