  • Modern Data Stack

Tomasz Chudzik | Unit8, Solution Architect & Area Director.

He has experience in leading teams, designing and building large scale data systems in diverse corporate environments. Prior to Unit8 he has been leading a large development of trading and reporting systems in UBS. Before that he has been building risk management and algorithmic trading systems for Morgan Stanley. Tomek holds a masters degree from University of Technology & Science in Cracow, Poland and loves playing tennis.

“Modern Data Stack" is a set of technologies that help organisations, of any size, to become data-driven. Find out why building such a stack differs between Technology Startup and 300-year Old Manufacturing Company.

  • Data modelling in modern data platforms

Wojciech Nowak | VirtusLab, Senior Software Engineer

He builds robust, end-to-end data solutions, being focused on making things happen and delivering high-quality results.

Wojciech is currently part of a team of world-class engineers providing IT services to one of the most innovative ventures in the insurance industry. One of his previous projects was the development of the second largest big data cluster in Asia (dated 2020), which revolutionised the approach to monitoring network assets and services. Wojciech is a graduate of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow. In his free time, he recharges his batteries on skis, plays tennis, and enjoys water sports.

Traditional data modelling techniques give way to modern machine learning use cases. Moreover they fail to rise in volume and variety of unstructured data. Modern, hybrid architectures such as Data Lakehouse try to tackle it by creating a unified data management layer, But is this enough to untangle the data spaghetti?

The future of data platforms, panel discussion

  • Tomasz Chudzik, Solution Architect & Area Director at Unit8
  • Wojciech Nowak, Senior Software Engineer at VirtusLab
  • Przemek Maciolek, Founding Engineer at Motif Analytics, PhD
  • Expert in data engineering, machine learning and observability. Frequent public speaker and the former lead of the DataKRK community.
  • Mikolaj Kromka, Principal Software Engineer & Advisor at VirtusLab
  • 10+ years in the IT business, with experience on a range of topics: distributed systems, data science engineering and scalable data processing. Currently, focusing on creating custom software solutions for Data Platforms.

Data platforms have come a long way, from traditional SQL data warehouses, through on-premise Hadoop clusters to hybrid Data Lakes supporting both structured and unstructured data.

We hear about data platforms quite often. Increasingly, it is not just a tool that exists somewhere on the IT side and only gets engineers excited about data, but it is the driving force behind entire organisations moving towards data-driven decision-making.

What trends are we currently seeing? What to watch out for, what to beware of? How to effectively manage petabytes of structured and unstructured data? How to scale? How to avoid common problems?

Let’s spark a conversation between a group of experts, so that you can learn from their discourse and interaction...
