Connect.IT Lodz | Quantifying results leads to better software decisions

Measuring improvements is fundamental to any tech field. Join us at Connect IT Lodz for two talks that showcase the importance of setting up a well-thought-out system of quantifying results, from the macro-level of tracking changes of complex codebases to the nitty-gritty of how we define the fitness of an object tracking algorithm.
The powered by Endava event will take place on May 26, at 6 PM, at Muzeum Sztuki, Ogrodowa 19 90-734 Lodz.
REGISTRATION:
Connect.IT Lodz is FREE of charge, but the seats are limited. Make sure you save yours by registering here.
You will receive an invitation via e-mail with all the additional details.
AGENDA:
6.00 PM – 6:30 PM: Registrations
6.30 PM – 7.15 PM: Tuning multi-object tracking algorithms: How to make your tracking system better by making it (theoretically) worse
Speaker: Calin Cristian, Data Scientist at Endava
Abstract: Object tracking is an integral part of many computer vision applications that deal with video streams, from traffic monitoring to sports analysis. A significant part of the effort in the field is focused on making sure trackers are robust for a multitude of scenarios– but most of these systems end up being used with images that come from fixed cameras. There are significant benefits to tuning tracking models at the individual video stream level as opposed to applying the usual wisdom that a model should perform well regardless of the data you throw at it.
Calin is a data scientist who, contrary to his profession, will make the case that it is a good idea to overfit your object tracking models, and show you how.
7.15 PM – 8.00 PM: How to make implementing changes in large codebases less painful and more predictable
Speaker: Dan Danciu, VP Intelligent Automation at Endava
Abstract: Over time code has a natural tendency to become entangled; the more we add code, performing changes on that codebase becomes more costly and less enjoyable. There is no one cause: pressure from deadlines, developers' level of experience, friction between departments, shifting goals, and many, many others... Over the last decades, the software industry answered these difficulties with numerous solutions to improve outcomes and to make the developer experience better when working on large codebases.
Dan will share the simple habits we must learn as coders to make our own life easier down the road when the code we wrote will have to change and how to measure the codebase to show things are improving.
8.00 PM – 9.00 PM: Networking
LET’S CONNECT & ENGAGE!

ABOUT CONNECT.IT:
Connect.IT is a concept powered by Endava to build and strengthen the dialogue in the local communities by organizing technical meetups for professionals, facilitating a sharing experience based on their views and interests.
Under the Connect.IT umbrella, we are launching a roadmap series of events in 13 cities, where Endava is present: Bucharest, Craiova, Brașov, Ruse, Lodz, Bălți, Sibiu, Târgu Mureș, Gdansk, Suceava, Plovdiv and Varna.
