KJUG #63 "Practical Postgres internals"

KJUGowicze - 63. meetup zbliża się wielkimi krokami, spotykamy się już 19 października! Tym razem wystąpi przed nami Daniel Olszowski
Practical Postgres internals
Ever seen a database crash in a pre-production environment? Weird, isn't it? It happened to us once, and it took us more than a day to recover, much more than anyone expected. A simple decision on which database to use for your microservice is just the beginning; tooling is essential, and shallow knowledge about your database is hardly ever enough. I'm here to tell you something about Postgres that we learned in those days. As we untangle the web of causes behind the crash, we'll uncover intriguing system behaviours and unveil PostgreSQL mechanisms you never knew existed. I'll discover the secrets behind database size, demystify the vacuum process and show you tools for better database management.
O prelegencie:
Daniel Olszowski - Software engineer and manager. I've worked both in scientific and business environments, starting my career with an internship at CERN and then working for ACC Cyfronet AGH. Currently at Virtus Lab, where, for more than six years, I have the distinct pleasure of working with great people and developing high-quality microservices using modern paradigms and patterns, including DDD, CQRS and event sourcing. I love science, with a particular focus on quantum physics and neurobiology.
