1. Cheating time with Renode simulation - running real life workflows in hyperspeed, Marcin Witkowski, Antmicro

Testing firmware for embedded systems isn't the easiest task, especially if we are looking for problems which could show up after longer runtimes. Be it an online algorithm processing sensory data or an over-engineered blinky where the LED should only light up when the moon is changing its phase - in either situation we wouldn't want to wait literal days for the test suite to complete. That's where Renode comes to the rescue: https://github.com/renode.

In this talk, we will briefly introduce the open source Renode simulation framework, discuss the concept of virtual/real time, and then deep-dive into methods of improving guest application performance. We will be profiling performance, skipping through time, forging acceptance signals and finding the culprits of non-optimal runtime times.

2. Chisel: Designing FPGAs using object-oriented and functional programming, Wiktora Kuna, Antmicro

Bringing well known programming concepts down to the FPGA field and delivering them in a friendly, well-known, packaging lowers the entry threshold for designing custom hardware. Thereby, attracting a wide range of people willing to join their effort, exchange ideas and broaden the open source community even further.

During this talk, we will learn some basics of Chisel - an open source hardware description language (HDL) based on Scala; how software programming concepts can be applied to designing FPGAs and what benefits it brings. We will also go over some real life open source projects utilizing Chisel, such as Antmicro’s Accelerator Interface Generator: https://antmicro.github.io/accelerator-interface-generator/. If designing FPGAs seems to you like a mysterious art, you might want to turn up for this one!

20:15-23:00 - Afterparty

Opis:

Calling open source enthusiasts in Wroclaw!

Our Open Source Meetup returns after the summer break with its 13th edition. We will meet again on October 12th in Concordia Design. As usual, we have planned two technical presentations, a Q&A session and of course a socializing & networking afterparty till late.

Registration:

Attending the event involves a registration at the entry based on the meetup attendee list. You will be asked to provide your name, surname and affiliation. You have to be an adult to attend. Upon entering the venue, you agree that you might be photographed/filmed.

Afterparty:

After the presentations, stay with us for socializing and more discussions at the evening afterparty sponsored by Antmicro with a delicious cold and hot dinner menu, and a selection of regional craft beer and drinks!
