Description:
BeaconValley started as a project to beaconize Kontakt.io’s hometown Krakow, Poland and to turn it into a smart city. To make the idea happen, last June we hosted a hackathon that turned out be a huge success. We wanted to involve at least 70 attendees and 15 companies that would have developed 10 finished apps that help solve real problems. In order to achieve these goals, we needed to make the hackathon irresistible for our target participants. We created a dedicated website and held an event on Facebook. Using Kontakt.io’s and our partners’ channels, pushing traditional media, and spreading the word through social networks, we reached our audience quickly. The results went beyond expectations. 100 attendees and 21 companies showed up. Their struggles were coordinated by 21 mentors. Together, they developed 16 apps, ready to be immediately implemented. This time we wanted to go bigger. Four times bigger, in fact. BeaconValley Global Hackathon will kick off on November 21st in Krakow, New York, London, and Guadalajara—at the same time! For 24 hours, developers, powered by Kontakt.io beacons, Marty McHack’s motivation tips, mentors’ knowledge, and productivity boosters will be working on solutions to four challenges: culture, health, commerce, and transportation.
