Feral Concurrency Control: An Empirical Investigation of Modern Application Integrity is an in-depth evaluation of application-level mechanisms for maintaining database integrity. The study is mainly based on transaction control in Ruby on Rails ORM, but the conclusions are easily applicable to other popular frameworks such as JPA or Hibernate.
