The 17th edition of the Wrocław Scala User Group is coming soon!

Join us for another evening of Scala paired with good food and drinks.

This time we’re focusing on pragmatic architecture and developer productivity, with two talks that cut through theory and get straight to what actually works when time is tight and builds need to be fast.

Check out the details below.

“Ports and Adapters, for People on Tight Schedules” — Przemysław Pokrywka

Focus on software architecture is not always associated with pragmatism in common perception. Terms such as architecture astronautics and the ivory tower stereotype highlight the perceived disconnect between many architects and the realities of day-to-day code maintenance. Too often, architectural patterns are applied with insufficient understanding, leading to cargo-cult adoption and increased waste in the software development process. When applied in the right context, however, certain architectural approaches can be powerful enablers. In this talk, I would like to share the story of a serverless application in which elements of the Ports and Adapters architecture made a tangible, positive difference.

Bio: Husband, dad, software engineer. Scala enthusiast with a Java background. Linux user. Agile proponent (back when it still meant something).

“Everything You Need to Know to Get Started with Caching in sbt 2.x” — Aleksandra Zdrojowa

The caching mechanism in build tools is essential for enhancing developer productivity by streamlining workflows. In this talk, I'll explore the new caching system in sbt 2.x and compare it to sbt 1.x. I'll explain the core caching concepts, which can aid in project migrations to sbt 2.x. The session will prioritize hands-on examples with minimal focus on theory.

Bio: Scala Developer working on the Scala Plugin at JetBrains / VirtusLab.

As always — great talks, great people, and plenty of time for discussion.

See you at the meetup!
