Shaping the Future of Learning: From Adaptive Tutoring to Immersive Experiences

The way people learn is changing faster than at any point in living memory—and at Pearson, we're actively exploring what comes next. In this talk, we'll share a glimpse into our applied research and innovation agenda: the spectrum of opportunities we're pursuing spans AI-powered adaptive tutoring and intelligent content generation, through novel assessment methods, all the way to immersive and multimodal learning experiences. We'll discuss how we evaluate which bets to place, how we move from research insight to product impact, and what excites us most about the intersection of learning science and emerging technology.

AI-Centric Engineering: How AI Is Reshaping the Way We Build Software at Pearson

What does it look like when AI stops being just a feature you ship—and starts becoming the way you build? At Pearson, we're rethinking software engineering from the ground up for an AI-native world. In this session, we'll walk through our evolving vision for AI-centric engineering: how agentic AI tools are changing the developer experience, what it means to have AI participate across the full development lifecycle—from architecture and planning through code generation, review, and deployment—and where we see this heading in the next 12 months. We'll share concrete examples from our own teams, including how we're using large language models as development partners for direct-to-consumer learning products. Expect a candid conversation on what's working, what's hype, and where the world is going.

Building the Data Foundation for AI-Powered Education

Every AI system is only as good as the data behind it—and in a company that serves millions of learners across hundreds of products, the data challenge is anything but simple. In this talk, we'll share how Pearson is building the data foundation to power the next generation of AI-driven learning. The work spans a wide range: from creating a unified data catalogue so teams can actually find and trust the data they need, through building reusable ‘data products’, to simplifying a complex data estate and strengthening governance across the board. We'll talk about how enterprise search and discoverability become critical enablers—not just for analytics, but for grounding AI in reliable, governed content.
