Agenda

5:45 Networking

6:00 Talk

Tomasz Melcer: Exploring Storj: What does it take to build a distributed storage platform?

Storj is an extremely decentralized, open-source storage platform written in Golang. I operate one of thousands of nodes, and I am personally a small-time contributor to the project. As a software engineer myself, I was curious how it works inside, and so I started studying its source code. This presentation aims to show Storj as a code base full of interesting choices coming from unique constraints, like being able to operate inside embedded inside consumer NAS units, while preserving desirable characteristics like low latency.

Arek Ziobrowski: Validations boilerplate code made not required with Go validator

Writing validation logic can sometimes feel cumbersome - lots of code, sometimes a bit of dependency between field values. Managing this can often feel like a waste of time and energy.

The `go-playground/validator` library can be used to ease the burden of writing validation boilerplate code. As a result, this library has recently become my go-to library for building validations. I will show a few examples of how it can be used to build a cleaner, more manageable codebase.

7:30 Networking

Speakers

  • Tomek - I work with computing more than I would like to admit. Yet, after all that time, I still like it. My career somehow gravitated towards data storage and data processing. When I'm not coding, I usually play board games or learn (human!) languages.
  • Arek - I am a software engineer with experience in web development and data engineering domains. I like clean code, working with people and building systems that work.
