Please note that space is limited, so RSVP to confirm your attendance. Registering is crucial to help us anticipate the number of attendees and plan accordingly.
AGENDA:
Francesco Cesarini - Founder & Technical Director @Erlang Solutions
Topic: Thinking Concurrency: Dwelling in Erlang and Elixir
Abstract: The functional paradigm has been influencing mainstream languages for decades, making developers more efficient whilst helping reduce maintenance costs. As we are faced with a programming model that needs to scale on multi-core architectures and distributed environments, concurrency becomes critical. In these concurrency models, immutability, a key feature of functional programming paradigm will become even more evident. To quote Simon Peyton Jones, future concurrent languages will be functional; they might not be called functional, but the features will be. At this meetup, we will be discussing why!
Bartek Górny - Senior Erlang Developer @Erlang Solutions
Topic: An Erlanger’s encounter with Gleam
Abstract: What is Gleam about? Is strict type-checking a blessing or a nuisance? What are the good things that Gleam brings, and what is bad about it? A short introduction to Gleam and an entirely subjective look at it from a seasoned Erlang developer.
Szymon Mentel - DevRel @Fly.io
Topic: Scaling Elixir Clusters Across Continents with Fly.io
Abstract: Ready to take your Elixir/Phoenix app global? This talk reveals how to effortlessly deploy and scale your app across continents using Fly.io. Discover the secrets behind seamless clustering that ensures your app’s high availability and top-notch performance. See a practical demonstration of an example app that uses clustering, highlighting this approach's real-world benefits.

He moved on to Ericsson’s Erlang training and consulting arm working on the first release of OTP, applying it to turnkey solutions and flagship telecom applications. In 1999, soon after Erlang was released as open source, he founded Erlang Solutions, which has become the world leader in Erlang based consulting, contracting, training and systems development.
Francesco has worked in major Erlang-based projects both within and outside Ericsson, and as Technical Director, has led the development and consulting teams at Erlang Solutions. He is also the co-author of ‘Erlang Programming’ and ‘Designing for Scalability with Erlang/OTP’ both published by O’Reilly and lectures at Oxford University.

An occasional writer and speaker, sailor, skier and musician, he lives happily in Warsaw with his wife, two kids, a cat and a dog.
Szymon Mentel
Szymon has spent most of his professional life working with Erlang and Elixir, focusing on backend engineering. His experience spans networking, cryptocurrencies, document processing, and AI. Most recently, he joined Fly.io, a company building a new public cloud. At Fly.io, he focuses on technologies that excel in their environment, such as Elixir clustering across regions and Ollama deployments on GPUs. On a personal note, Szymon is passionate about mountains and enjoys mountain biking, hiking, and splitboarding.
