Abstracts & bios:

"Not Your Grandpa's Java, A Comparison of Syntax Features Between Scala 2 and Java 21", Tomasz Kogut

The JVM has always been the cool kid on the tech block, pushing limits and exploring new possibilities. On the flip side, Java the language played it safe for years, kind of like the reliable old friend you knew you could count on but didn't expect surprises from. Lately, though, Java's been shaking things up and adding some neat tricks to its bag, making some folks do a double-take. It's like Java's been taking some cues from Scala 2, and now we're here to chat about what's new and cool in Java-land. Is Scala 2 still the go-to for the cool and complex stuff, or is Java making a comeback as the language to watch? Let's dive in and see what's up with Java's latest makeover.

Engineering Manager and Tech Lead at an adtech company. I have spent most of my career on the Data/AI side of software engineering. I have been using Scala since around 2010. Today I don't shy away from Python, Go, and Java.

"The Nice, the Magical and the Insane: API Design Patterns in Scala 3", Łukasz Biały

Scala 3 enables a wide range of new, bold and interesting API design patterns. In my talk I will explore some of the new variants that have been created by the wizards of the Scala Compiler team and test-driven in Scala 3 library development. In my talk I will show you their possible use cases, their strong sides, their drawbacks and rank them from most basic and most useful to most unhinged and surprising.
