SJUG #47 - Tracing async services
Zapraszamy na ostatnie w 2019 roku spotkanie Silesia JUG!
Tym razem Marcin Łukasiak zaprezentuje temat Tracing async services.
With the transition to microservices for large distributed systems and proliferation of asynchronous technologies, tracking the execution of the business processed becomes more important than ever. Tracing solutions can be used to both trace the status of the services themselves as well as to monitor the execution of the business processes. With OpenTracing, we get a vendor-neutral framework for distributed tracing instrumentation. We will explore the distributed microservices architecture and potential tracing implementation using Jaeger and Kafka with Elastic Search as storage for tracing messages. In one of the projects, we had a chance to implement a tracing solution to manage large business processes. We will explore that use case and why it is valuable to orchestrate our services with tracing technologies and what we can expect to get out of them. We will also take a broader view of Kafka as a messaging service and why it is so applicable for large distributed systems.
Marcin in Senior Architect and Development Manager at Accenture Advanced Technical Center in Katowice. Last 18 years he spent building large distributed systems for international businesses including clients like Intel, CreditSuisse, World Bank, TomTom, and ING. Recently involved in multiple projects where tracing became more and more important due to the size of the systems involved. Outside of work he likes to take his motorcycle for a long trip or spend his spare time with his family in the beautiful city of Bielsko-Biała.
